Kelly Cobb MD is a board certified internal medicine physician raised here in Lafayette. Since her graduation from STM in 1988, she has pursued a career in medicine driven by her interest in the complexities that influence mind, body and health.
She holds an MD from LSU School of Medicine as well as degrees from the University of Texas in psychology, humanities and communications. She completed internal medicine training at Emory University in Atlanta. She subsequently worked as a clinical educator in the University of Iowa ER and was a partner in a 10 physician traditional internal medicine group. She served on the Board of Directors of Iowa City Hospice and is board eligible in geriatrics.
She is also certified in age management medicine through Cenegenics Institute and completed training at the Center for Medical Weight Loss with Dr. Michael Kaplan. She has given lectures for providers and patients on topics including arthritis, thyroid dysfunction, metabolic syndrome and breast cancer prevention. She has been involved in research in osteoporosis and nerve regeneration. She has extensive experience treating women’s health issues.
Dr. Kelly Cobb believes that she is a partner in her patients’ quest for optimal health. By asking questions and listening, a dialogue begins that allows for relationship building. It is in this dialogue, in which patients actively participate in the decision making process, that healing begins. She has studied functional medicine as well as allopathic medicine and believes a combined approach is necessary especially in the primary care setting. She believes nutrition is the cornerstone of health and believes continued nutritional support is important both in wellness and in disease.
She believes health equals confidence and as such potentiates a person’s abilities to set and reach goals. She became interested in aesthetics through studying dermatologic manifestations of disease and nutritional deficiencies. She has been active in staying abreast of current research and technology which can repair and aid in the appearance of the skin. She has certification in the use of dermal fillers, botox, and sclerotherapy through Aesthetic Advancements . She has been trained and certified in the operation of the Aesthera, Sciton and Clear and Brilliant lasers as well as the Apollo Tripolar device.
Dr. Cobb has also reached out to local psychologists to incorporate relational recovery and community health ideas into her practice. She is dedicated to using the concept of biochemical individuality to help her patients reach their nutrition and weight goals.
Dr. Cobb is always interested in pushing herself to learn more and welcomes patient experiences and ideas. Her interests include music of all kinds, modern art, travel, philosophy, world history, philanthropy, outdoor activities, creative writing, documentary film, and sailing. She is very happy to be close to her family and friends and is excited to be raising her two children surrounded by Cajun culture.
